Energy saving grants and subsidies for UK home owners

In order to achieve its EEC target for a 34% reduction in CO₂ emissions by 2020, the Government is currently providing substantial subsidies for home insulation through the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) scheme.

These subsidies are made through grants provided by the six major utility companies and enable homeowners over 70 years old and those on qualifying benefits to receive home insulation for free. Grant funding is also available to all homeowners and typically reduces the cost by 75% from the full installation cost.

To qualifying for free insulation the homeowner must be either over 70 years old or in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits:

• Income Support
• Housing Benefit
• Council Tax Benefit
• Disabled Persons Tax Credit
• Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
• War Disablement Pension – must also be in receipt of Mobility Supplement or Constant Attendance Allowance
• Attendance Allowance
• Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit – must also be in receipt of Constant Attendance Allowance
• Child Tax Credit – with annual income less that £16,040
• Working Tax Credit - with annual income less that £16,040
• Disability Living Allowance
• Income Related Employment Support Allowance
