Typical heat loss

Without insulation, the average home loses 23% of heat through the roof and 35% through the walls. How much energy are you wasting?
Did you know?
- 35% of heat loss in your home can occur through un-insulated walls
- Insulating your walls can save you over £100 per year on your heating bills!
- 25% of heat loss in your home can occur though an un-insulated roof
- Insulating your roof can save you up to £150 per year on your heating bills!
Insulating your home
Insulating your home is the most effective method of reducing your energy bills and making your home a warmer and more comfortable living space. It can save you around 25% on your heating bills and adds value to your home by increasing its Home Energy Rating.
Home insulation enjoys substantial subsidies under the Government Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) scheme which typically reduces the cost by some 75%. See our grants guide for more details.
Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity wall insulation is undertaken by blowing a mineral wool insulation material through a series of small holes that are carefully drilled in your external walls. The holes are drilled in a regular pattern through the mortar joints and are made good with matching filler after the work is completed.
All cavity wall insulation is guaranteed for 25 years by the Government sponsored Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA). Independent research has shown that cavity wall insulation is a very reliable process but in the rare event that problems occur, CIGA provides the householder with the expertise to ensure they are quickly remedied.
Loft Insulation
Loft insulation is undertaken by installing rolls of mineral wool insulation material between and on top of the roof joists in your loft.
The Governments current recommendation is that loft insulation should be at least 270mm deep to maximise potential energy savings. Many older homes have less than this amount and we therefore ‘top-up’ your loft insulation to the required 270mm level.
During the insulation process the loft hatch is also insulated and hot water tanks and pipework can also be insulated at modest additional cost.
